Curaçao is an island in the Carribean, which belong to the Netherlands. However it has a special status and is known as a popular offshore especially for gamblibg companies. Based on WIkipedia (1) the total area of an island is about 444 km2 and it has a population of 148,925 people. Since 2010 Curaçao is independent (2) in internal affairs from Netherlands and only cooperates with Amsterdam in the field of defense and foreign affairs.

Based on Quora (3) people living in Curaçao and other dependent territories of Netherlands (Aruba, Sant-Maarten) have Netherlands passport. However citizens of European Netherlands need to get a special residence permit to live on the island. Curaçao also has a special digital nomad visa program (4) called “Home in Curaçao Visa”. To get this visa applicant shoud prove that it has a working contract with a company or his self-employed business activities. By this program it’s possible to get visa for 6 months and then renew it for 6 more months.

Based on Emgroup (7) Curaçao doesn’t have a separate framework for crypto regulation. However, crypto entities are regulated by LOK 2023. This law is manages gambling&gaming activities and it allows gambling companies to use crypto. Based on Emgroup interpretation crypto exchanges also may legally operate in this jurisdiction - they just need to register company and get an igaming license based on LOK 2023.

According to Lawrange (8) LOK 2023 will be a temporary regulation for crypto entities in Curacao and the main regulator is the Curaçao Gambling Authority (CGA). It’s also important for local crypto entities to follow AML regulations.

Taxation

  Based on Visaguide (9) standard CIT rate in Curaçao is 22% and progressive PIT rate is up to 46,5%. However, according to Lawrange (10) there is no capital gains, dividend or inheritance tax in Curacao. Also there is an incentive tax regime (11) in Curaçao that allows companies to get tax exemption for 10 years - to join this program a company should make investment about $3,000,000.
