In September 2022 The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has issued (4) a fresh statement which prohibits “issuing, trading, or promoting cryptocurrencies, creating or operating platforms for trading it, or carrying out related activities.” In March 2023, the CBE issued a fourth warning (5) against crypto operations and stated that no crypto exchange is licensed to operate in Egypt.

At the same time, there are rumors that the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) is moving (6) forward to adopt cryptocurrency laws that will be regulated by the CBE, according to Heba Hegazi, senior associate at Marghany Advocates in Cairo.
